JOB DEFINITION: The Family Peer Advocate works as a member of a
client/ family's treatment team to deliver peer services to identified families who have needs related to communication, advocacy, education, and/ or parenting skills
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A high school diploma preferred. A credential recognized by the Office of Mental Health and receive specialized training and supervision preferred, or required to be acquired within 6 months of employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Parent or Caregiver who has lived experience with the challenges of raising (or has raised) a child with serious mental health concerns and is personally familiar with the associated challenges and available community resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Serve as a role model for identified family members
- Educate families about self-help techniques and self-help group processes.
- Teach effective coping strategies to clients based upon experience
- Assist in clarifying rehabilitation and recovery goals for clients and families.
- Assist families with developing community connections and naturals supports to enhance the quality of life by integration and support for families in their own communities as well as helping the family to rediscover and reconnect to natural supports already present in their lives.
- Helps family members learn and practice strategies to support their child's positive behavior, assisting the family to implement strategies recommended by clinicians.
- Provides individual or group parent skill development related to the behavioral health needs of the child (i.e., training on special needs parenting skills).
- Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and to keep clients informed of progress.
- Identify and implement quality improvement trainings and activities as part of professional development goals.
- Encourage quality improvement processes and provide consistent resources for QI and professional development
- Ability to cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views and experiences. A Culture that makes better decisions, drives innovation, and delivers better business results.
