POSITION SUMMARY :

The Acquisitions Assistant supports the Acquisitions, Serials, and Cataloging Departments in the Delta College Library. Clerical, organizational, time management, and technology skills are a necessity. This position is responsible for placing orders for all library materials and supplies, as well as creating purchase orders and invoices; tracking and budget related data; and working with vendors. Serials maintenance includes the responsibility for oversight of all aspects of periodical maintenance. The Acquisitions Assistant assists the librarians with processing of books for cataloging and the withdrawal of items from the collection, as well as maintaining statistics and working with various library and college employees. This position also assists with the Laptop Lending Program, serves as backup to the Circulation area, and provides support to the Library Manager and librarians as needed.

The position requires someone with proficient technology skills as a variety of software and databases are used daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING :

ACQUISITIONS

• Order/requisition/invoice all materials for the Library.
• Manage the book budget.
• Reconcile vendor statements.
• Prepare a wide range of reports for managers.

SERIALS

• Order and process all serials orders.
• Maintain a current, up-to-date list of local serials holdings for staff and patrons.

CATALOGING

• Assist with various cataloging functions including processing books, discard of items, and book repair.
• Maintain statistics and prepare reports.
• Assist with processing/withdrawal of government documents.

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain statistics and compile reports for Library Manager and Librarians; keep area procedure manuals updated.
• Take responsibility for opening Library.
• Attend college and library staff meetings as well as VLC Database meetings.
• Remain current in library technologies.

CIRCULATION / LAPTOP PROGRAM

• Support the Circulation desk by checking out items and helping patrons when needed.
• Assist with Interlibrary Loan and supervising student workers.
• Assist librarians with Laptop Lending Program.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate degree or equivalent knowledge/skills.
• Ability to multi-task efficiently and problem solve independently.
• Ability to use oral and written communication effectively and work in a team environment.
• 1 – 3 years of position related experience.
